The Cleveland Browns are off to a 3-2 start thanks to their dominant defense, but offensively, the club has had its fair share of issues this season.
One of those issues is the aerial attack.
The Browns rank 30th in the NFL in passing offense, and while that number is certainly skewed by the fact that quarterback Deshaun Watson has missed the last couple of games due to a shoulder injury, there are still obvious problems with Cleveland’s passing game.
The Browns’ receiving corps has not been very effective this season. While Amari Cooper has been solid, the depth behind him has not been great, and much of that is due to Donovan Peoples-Jones.
Peoples-Jones was pegged as a potential breakout candidate in what is a contract year for him this season, but he has been a major disappointment, logging just six catches for 75 yards through Cleveland’s first five games.
As a result of Peoples-Jones’ struggles, trade rumors are begin to swirl around the fourth-year wide receiver.
According to Brad Stainbrook of The Orange and Brown Report, the Browns may be willing to listen on trade offers for Peoples-Jones between now and the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline.
Stainbrook adds that while Cleveland won’t be going out of its way to move Peoples-Jones, the possibility of a trade remains as the Browns would like to give more opportunities to younger receivers like rookie Cedric Tillman.
Peoples-Jones has also fallen behind fellow wide out Elijah Moore on the depth chart, which is striking considering Moore totaled just 37 catches for 446 yards and a touchdown with the New York Jets last season. Meanwhile, Peoples-Jones hauled in 61 receptions for 839 yards and three scores in 2022.
The Browns will take on the Indianapolis Colts this Sunday.
