Browns Insider Urges Blockbuster Jonathan Taylor Trade

The Cleveland Browns lost star running back Nick Chubb to a devastating knee injury in Week 2, so their ground game could use some help, to say the least. Could the Browns turn to Indianapolis Colts halfback Jonathan Taylor for the assistance?

Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer says that while Cleveland had no interest in trading for Taylor two weeks ago, the Browns should strongly consider pursuing him now.

Cleveland signed Kareem Hunt back following Chubb’s injury, but the club’s rushing attack has been stymied the past couple of weeks, amassing a grand total of 171 yards against the Tennessee Titans and the Baltimore Ravens.

The Browns seem like a natural fit for Taylor, especially considering that Chubb’s career could be in jeopardy beyond this season.

But could anything actually happen on that front?

Taylor has spent the first four weeks of the season on the PUP list, but the Colts designated him to return this week. The star halfback asked for a trade over the summer after Indianapolis refused to give him a long-term deal, but talks have not gone very far due to Indy’s high asking price.

Unless Taylor opts to sit out, it’s looking more and more like he will make his 2023 debut in a Colts uniform when the team takes on the Titans on Sunday. It was also reported earlier in the week that Indianapolis has not held any serious trade discussions with any clubs recently.

Still, Cleveland has up until the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline to make something happen, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility that the Browns could enter the fray and attempt to strike a deal for Jonathan Taylor.

Cleveland is 2-2 and sits one game behind the Baltimore Ravens for first place in the AFC North, and Taylor could represent a potential difference-maker for the squad.
