Could The Jets Pursue A Trade For Hollywood Brown?

The New York Jets made numerous moves in an attempt to bolster their receiving corps during the offseason, bringing in the likes of Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb and Mecole Hardman.

Thus far, two out of those three acquisitions have not worked out.

While Lazard has been moderately productive, logging 14 catches for 210 yards and a touchdown through the Jets’ first six games, Cobb has been a non-factor, totaling three grabs for 20 yards. Meanwhile, Hardman was targeted just three times all season before being traded to his former Kansas City Chiefs club earlier this week.

Behind Garrett Wilson and Lazard, New York does not have a whole lot of depth at the wide receiver position, meaning the club could (and should) be in the market for a wide out between now and the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline.

One player the Jets should be taking a long, hard look at is Arizona Cardinals receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown.

Unless the Las Vegas Raiders end up placing Davante Adams on the trade block or if the Tampa Bay Buccaneers decide to move Mike Evans, Brown will probably be the best name potentially available before the end of the month.

Brown isn’t elite, but he is a downfield burner who does have a 1,000-yard campaign under his belt.

This season, the 26-year-old has looked solid, hauling in 32 receptions for 383 yards and three touchdowns. Brown will be a free agent at the end of the season, so the Cardinals (who are likely entering rebuilding mode) may want to move him now to recoup some value for him.

Brown would represent a perfect fit for the Jets, who could absolutely use another target to help out struggling (but improving) quarterback Zach Wilson.

New York’s aerial attack ranks 29th in the NFL, and while much of that is a result of poor quarterback play, the fact that the Jets don’t really have many legitimate weapons isn’t helping their case.

Brown would probably cost New York a Day 2 draft pick, but he would be worth it. He’s still young, and while he isn’t exactly Adams or Evans, he is a good receiver who would absolutely make the team better. The Jets could also re-sign him in the offseason, providing the club with a nice youthful tandem of wide outs in Garrett Wilson and Brown.

If New York isn’t picking up the phone and calling the Cardinals about Hollywood Brown, the front office is making a major mistake.
