Cowboys Could Pursue Intriguing Free Agent Wide Receiver

The Dallas Cowboys are entering the 2023 off-season with a few needs on the roster. Depending on how free agency shakes out, there could be a few more needs added along the way.

The most pressing need for Dallas could be the interior of their defense. Making an upgrade at the defensive tackle spot is imperative as that is the weakest point of their defense but arguably the most important when it comes to stopping the run.

On offense, their most important need could be running back. Tony Pollard is hitting free agency and Ezekiel Elliott has no guaranteed money remaining on his contract, so the position could see an overhaul. The Cowboys will likely aim to bring Pollard back after he had a breakout 2022 campaign.

Next on the list offensively would be an upgrade to the wide receiver spot. CeeDee Lamb proved last season that he is more than capable of producing as a No. 1 receiver, but the team needs to add some more help behind him.

Michael Gallup showed some flashes in his return from an ACL injury but has yet to regain his true form. Adding a pass catcher becomes an even more pressing need should tight end Dalton Schultz depart in free agency.

One player that could be an ideal target for the Cowboys is Parris Campbell of the Indianapolis Colts. The second-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft struggled to stay healthy the first three seasons of his career but was able to put things together in 2022 before heading into free agency.

Campbell played in all 17 games after appearing in only 15 in his first three seasons. He finished the season with 63 receptions for 623 yards and three touchdowns, adding five rushes for 58 yards.

The Ohio State product could not have picked a better time to have a breakout season as he is hitting free agency. But, also to his benefit, the biggest stars at the position all signed extensions last offseason, so he should be able to cash in as one of the best available wide receivers this offseason.

Still only 25, there is some intrigue to a player such as Campbell. The injuries haven’t enabled him to showcase his talents consistently but the Colts have also struggled to find consistent production at the quarterback spot. Combine that with his skill set and athleticism and a team such as the Cowboys could be getting a steal in free agency.
