NFL Exec Thinks Dallas Cowboys Could Pursue Deebo Samuel

The Dallas Cowboys are in need of some help at wide receiver behind CeeDee Lamb, and a former NFL executive tells the NFL Analysis Network that they could seek to swing a trade with the San Francisco 49ers for Deebo Samuel.

“Jerry Jones is feeling the weight of the world on his shoulders and he’s still hoping to make a splash,” the former exec said. “As the offseason moves forward, I would not be shocked to see the Cowboys reach out to the 49ers about Deebo Samuel.”

Before the NFL Draft last week, a report surfaced that teams had been calling the 49ers to inquire about Samuel’s availability. It has also been rumored that the Pittsburgh Steelers were making progress in trade talks with San Francisco, although it was not specified which Niners player they were after. The general assumption is either Samuel or fellow receiver Brandon Aiyuk.

Dallas would certainly make sense as a destination for Samuel.

Aside from Lamb, the Cowboys are fairly thin at wide out. They signed Brandin Cooks last offseason, but he had a disappointing 2023 campaign. The club also released Michael Gallup, whose career has been largely sapped by injuries.

Dallas didn’t sign any free agents at the position, and it didn’t draft a receiver until it selected Missouri State’s Ryan Flournoy in the sixth round.

Samuel is under contract through 2025, so the Cowboys would not have to worry about the former All-Pro walking at the end of next season. He also has plenty of playoff experience and has played in two Super Bowls, so he would bring veteran savvy into Dallas’ locker room.

We’ll see if the Cowboys make a push for Deebo Samuel in the coming weeks and months.
