The Dallas Cowboys are in the midst of their best run when it comes to regular season performance since their dynasty in the mid-90s. However, it hasn’t translated to playoff success, as the team hasn’t advanced to an NFC Championship Game since that dynasty as well.

They made some ugly history, becoming the first team ever to win 12 games in three straight seasons and not appear in a Championship Game. This offseason will be a big one in Dallas as they will look to put the pieces together to become contenders.

As the case has been in recent years, the Cowboys are entering the offseason in salary cap hell. They are currently 11.1 million over the salary cap and will have to make some moves to be come cap compliant before the deadline.

NFL News & Rumors: Treylon Burks, Michael Gallup, Tennessee Titans, Dallas Cowboys Updates

With a few pressing needs on the roster, Jerry Jones and company will have to get creative in filling them. Agreeing to extensions with quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb would certainly help get the job done.

As would trading some of their underwhelming veterans. One of the players who would fit the bill in that regard is wide receiver Michael Gallup. The Cowboys took a risk signing him to a five-year, $57.5 million deal in 2022 that he hasn’t come close to living up to after his ACL injury.

Over at Bleacher Report, Kris Knox has suggested the Cowboys look to trade Gallup and take a risk on a former first-round pick. Gallup and a third-round pick would head to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for Treylon Burks.

“In this hypothetical scenario, the Cowboys would deal with the Tennessee Titans, a team that is short on receiver depth and long on cap space ($74 million). Tennessee has its new head coach in Brian Callahan, and the Bengals’ former offensive coordinator may well bring in a free-agent receiver from Cincinnati, like Tee Higgins or Tyler Boyd.

However, Callahan should look to surround Will Levis with more veteran talent in order to boost his development. In this scenario, Dallas would pair Gallup with a future third-round pick to land Titans receiver Treylon Burks, who has struggled to live up to his draft status in Tennessee,” wrote Knox.

Just two years into his rookie contract, Burks would provide Dallas with the kind of salary cap relief they are in need of. Trading Gallup gives Dallas the best break when it comes to salary cap savings compared to just designating him as a post-June 1 cut.

They would then get the chance to develop Burks behind Lamb and Brandin Cooks. Along with 2022 third-round pick Jalen Tolbert, the Cowboys would have some younger, affordable options rounding out their wide receiver depth chart, allowing them to spend money elsewhere.
