Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys put together a busy offseason, making multiple trades and moves to pursue a Super Bowl. In Week 1, those moves paid off in a big way with a 40-0 victory over the NFC East division rival New York Giants. Could the Cowboys still be looking for a big addition, possibly even Tennessee Titans’ superstar running back Derrick Henry?
Henry is still the topic of trade rumors, especially after the Titans’ brutal showing in Week 1. While the Cowboys don’t “need” a running back, adding a piece like Henry would be another huge step towards a ring.
BetOnline recently released odds on teams that could trade for Henry. There were a handful of teams mentioned, but the Cowboys are on that list with +600 odds. At the very top of the list are the Buffalo Bills, who are given +200 odds.
All Cowboys fans know that Jones is not scared to pull the trigger on a big move if it makes sense. Giving Dak Prescott a backfield running mate like Henry would be a no-brainer decision.
In Week 1, Henry did not get going for the Titans. He ended up with 15 carries for 63 yards. Henry also caught two passes for 56 yards in the 16-15 loss to the New Orleans Saints.
Right now, the Cowboys are happy with Tony Pollard as the No. 1 running back. He put together a nice Week 1 performance against the Giants, rushing for 70 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries. They may not have interest in trading the draft capital it would take to get a talent like Henry.
All of that being said, the Cowboys have to go all-in on a Super Bowl run this season. The window is closing and the defense hasn’t been this talented for a long time. Investing more into the offense should be a priority.
There are many teams around the NFL that would love to get their hands on Derrick Henry. The Cowboys are far from being the most needy at the running back position, but they should throw their hate in the ring if he becomes available.
Expect to continue hearing more rumors about Henry in the coming weeks. If the Titans continue their slow start, a tough decision may have to be made to trade their longtime superstar running back.
