Cowboys’ Micah Parsons Could Break Intriguing NFL Record

Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons has already stamped his name among the best defenders in football and has even drawn comparisons to New York Giants legend Lawrence Taylor.

While that comparison may be a bit premature given all that Taylor accomplished during his illustrious NFL career, there is no doubting that Parsons is one of the more talented pass rushers the NFL has seen in recent years.

Parsons has been so dominant, as a matter of fact, that his pass rush win rate is at 34.6 percent. If he maintains this pace for the rest of the season, he would break the record for the best pass rush win rate in league history. The current record holder is Los Angeles Chargers defensive lineman Joey Bosa, who logged a 33.7 percent win rate in 2017 (h/t Seth Walder of ESPN).

Now, obviously, this is a very obscure and arbitrary stat that the average NFL can probably does not care too much about. However, it does demonstrate just how phenomenal Parsons has been this season.

Most recently, Parsons logged six tackles and 2.5 sacks in the Cowboys’ blowout win over the Carolina Panthers this past Sunday.

On the season overall, the star edge rusher has racked up 37 tackles, 10 sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a couple of passes defended.

The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Penn State, was selected by Dallas with the 12th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.

It didn’t take Parsons very long to establish himself as a top-tier threat, as he totaled 84 tackles, 13 sacks and three forced fumbles during his rookie campaign. He then followed that up by rattling off 65 tackles, 13.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and a defensive touchdown last year. He made the Pro Bowl and earned First-Team All-Pro selections in each of his first two seasons. Not only that, but Micah Parsons finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting both times.

The Cowboys are 7-3 and sit two games behind the Philadelphia Eagles for first place in the NFC East. They will battle the Washington Commanders on Thanksgiving.
