The Dallas Cowboys have a brutal slate of games remaining on their schedule, but head coach Mike McCarthy is looking forward to the opportunity for growth the rest of the way.
“I really do like the stretch that we’re getting ready to be on,” McCarthy said, via Patrik Walker of the Cowboys’ official team website. “When you look at the teams that we’re getting ready to line up against and, obviously, Philadelphia is all that matters right now — this is an excellent opportunity for us to play in playoff-type games without playoff consequences. I think that serves us very well because December football is something I’ve personally always enjoyed, and I think it’s a great indication of where you are as a team and what you need to do to get into the playoffs, and to be ready for the playoffs. We’re looking forward to it.”
As McCarthy notes, the Cowboys’ first of their remaining five games will come against the NFC East division rival Philadelphia Eagles next Sunday. Dallas just lost to the Eagles last month, so McCarthy and Co. are looking for some revenge.
Following the Cowboys’ clash with Philadelphia, Dallas will proceed to battle the Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins and Detroit Lions to close out the month of December. They will then finish off their season when they face the Washington Commanders on Jan. 7.
The Eagles, Bills, Dolphins and Lions have a combined record of 34-16. Three of those four teams made the playoffs last season.
Dallas has won four games in a row following its Nov. 5 loss to the Birds and has been thoroughly dominant in this recent stretch, outscoring its opponents 168-72. The Cowboys have scored over 40 points in three of those four contests, most recently defeating the Seattle Seahawks 41-35 last Thursday.
Mike McCarthy’s group is 9-3 and sits one game behind Philly for first place in the NFC East.
