The free agent market got a little deeper a few weeks ago when Dalvin Cook joined it. After six seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, they made the difficult decision to move on from the four-time Pro Bowl running back.
Dalvin Cook was set to have base salaries of $10.4 million and $11.9 million in the final two years of his contract, which Minnesota wasn’t keen on paying. They approached him about taking a pay cut but he was not interested in such a move.
The Vikings did shop him around the league, as they had him on the trade block for multiple months. But, once no trade partner could be found, they opted to release him instead. Now, Dalvin Cook is free to choose where he wants to play next.
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, his options are plentiful. While trade interest may have been mild, Pelissero has revealed that he has garnered significant interest as a free agent and already has multiple offers on the table.
Dalvin Cook is in no rush to pick a new team, as he is looking to not only maximize earnings but find a team that he fits on as well. Pelissero added that Dalvin Cook and his representatives do not view the start of training camp as a hard deadline, so his decision could come later in the summer.
One interesting piece to note is that Pelissero didn’t mention any specific teams; just that there are multiple offers. The Miami Dolphins have been mentioned most frequently and the New York Jets have emerged as a potential landing spot most recently.
A team such as the Cincinnati Bengals, if they feel Dalvin Cook is an upgrade over Joe Mixon, could also get in the mix. The Dallas Cowboys, who are waiting on the return of Tony Pollard, would make some sense as well.
