There has been a lot of buzz the last few days about the Dalvin Cook sweepstakes coming to an end. After being linked to the Miami Dolphins for weeks, it sounds like their AFC East rivals will actually be coming away with the star running back.

According to sources, it sounds like Dalvin Cook is going to be signing a deal with the New York Jets. Who are the sources? Dalvin Cook himself, who has been in Madison, New Jersey, where the team is holding training camp, for a few days already this week. He said the odds of him joining Gang Green are very high.

“They’re pretty high. I want to be a part of something special. The possibility is high of getting things done,” Cook said.

This should come as no surprise as the door was opened for the Jets to make a splash acquisition after the pay cut that Aaron Rodgers willingly took earlier this week. Rodgers signed a two-year, $75 million deal that essentially gave back $35 million.

That provided the Jets with a ton of wiggle room not only for this season but in 2024 as well. They wasted very little time using that newfound cap space, as a Dalvin Cook signing sounds imminent.

Dalvin Cook has made the Pro Bowl four consecutive years and looks to still be one of the best running backs in the NFL. The Minnesota Vikings released him earlier this offseason after they couldn’t find a trade partner and were unwilling to pay him the amount of money he was owed.

His release was part of the running back market crash that has been occurring around the league. But, it is something that will end up benefitting the Jets, as they had a need in their backfield for some experience.

With Breece Hall working his way back from an ACL tear, the Jets were likely going to lean on the combination of Michael Carter, Zonovan Knight and rookie fifth-round pick Israel Abanikanda of Pittsburgh. Dalvin Cook is a huge upgrade on that trio and will make arguably the best one-two punch with Hall once he is able to get back on the field. He also provides the team with some insurance in case Hall’s recovery takes longer than anticipated.
