Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle played through a left knee injury during his team’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Germany this past Sunday, but luckily, the Dolphins have a bye week coming up.
Head coach Mike McDaniel, who said that Waddle is “definitely sore,” says that his wide out will heal during the time off.
“He did a great job battling for his teammates,” McDaniel said, via Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald. “There was competitiveness that really drove him. We gave him an end around on the fourth, fifth play of the game and he was making clear to me on the sidelines to still call that, that he wanted the ball. He’s in a good spot but will make sure we don’t do any harm to him moving forward. He’s had to battle injuries unfortunately all season. We will utilize this bye week to make sure he’s fully healthy.”
Waddle logged three catches for 42 yards during the defeat.
On the season overall, Waddle has caught 40 passes for 522 yards and three touchdowns in eight games.
The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Alabama, was selected by Miami with the sixth overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.
He enjoyed a fantastic rookie campaign, snaring 104 balls for 1,015 yards and six scores. Then, last year, Waddle was even better, hauling in 75 receptions for 1,356 yards while reaching the end zone eight times. He also led the NFL by averaging 18.1 yards per catch.
Jaylen Waddle has missed just two games since entering the league, so he has mostly been a healthy player since joining the professional ranks.
The Dolphins have lost two of their last three games to fall to 6-3 on the year. They have also gone 0-3 against teams with winning records and are averaging just 17 points per game in those losses in spite of owning the league’s most explosive offense.
Miami will take on the Las Vegas Raiders when the club returns to the field in Week 11.
