The Philadelphia Eagles were able to hold off the Dallas Cowboys in their Week 9 matchup, picking up a 28-23 victory. But, the win did not come without a cost, as a key player on their offense suffered an injury.
Tight end Dallas Goedert suffered a fracture to his right forearm and is set to undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of it and if any other damage occurred. Adam Schefter of ESPN shared the update, as the star tight end is going to miss some time and is a candidate for injured reserve.
Goedert suffered the injury in the third quarter when he caught a pass from Jalen Hurts and ran up the sideline for a 28-yard gain. He was grabbed by Cowboys’ safety Marquese Bell to try and make the tackle and his weight appeared to land on the injured right arm.
With Goedert sidelined, the Eagles turned to Jack Stoll to play a majority of the snaps at tight end. Albert Okwuegbunam, who was acquired from the Denver Broncos in a trade in August, made his debut with the team and played six snaps.
He is another candidate to see the field in place of Goedert. Okwuegbunam was active because Grant Calcaterra suffered a concussion in Week 8 against the Washington Commanders and was sidelined for the matchup against the Cowboys.
Goedert has caught 35 passes for 360 yards and two touchdowns. He is an integral part of the Eagles’ game plan as the No. 3 receiver on the team behind wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.
This is a big blow to their offense as Goedert is expected to miss multiple weeks. Unfortunately, playing without Goeder in the lineup is something the Eagles have plenty of experience doing. He missed five games last season with a fractured shoulder and has missed at least one game in every season of his career except his rookie campaign.
