Michigan Wolverines Coach Fires Back At Any JJ McCarthy Doubter

University of Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy is one of the most polarizing prospects in this year’s NFL Draft class.

McCarthy was initially expected to be taken in the teens or the late first round. Some even had him pegged as a second-round pick.

However, recently, McCarthy has shot up draft boards, and rumor has it that the New England Patriots are even considering taking him at No. 3 overall.

Many feel that McCarthy is very undeserving of being drafted that highly, particularly in a class that is rife with quarterback prospects.

But new Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore pushed back against all of the criticism of McCarthy, saying that the signal-caller is a winner.

“He’s the ultimate winner, competitor,” Moore told Tom Curran of NBC Sports Boston. “The skillset, the tight window throws, the decision-making … his athleticism, his underrated athleticism, all things things will be put on display when he gets the chance. Whoever drafts him is going to be very happy that they have J.J. McCarthy in their locker room.”

Moore has been a member of Michigan’s coaching staff since 2018 and served as the team’s offensive coordinator under Jim Harbaugh this past season. He was promoted to head coach after Harbaugh took the Los Angeles Chargers’ head-coaching job.

McCarthy led the Wolverines to a national championship this past season, throwing for 2,991 yards, 22 touchdowns and four interceptions while completing 72.3 percent of his passes. He also rushed for 202 yards and three scores.

We’ll see who ends up selecting J.J. McCarthy next Thursday and if he ends up becoming one of the better players of the 2024 NFL Draft.
