Once again, Bill Belichick has stirred up the NFL, yet this time, the blame might not entirely fall on his shoulders. It’s actually on the Atlanta Falcons.
According to a recent ESPN report, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft allegedly cautioned Falcons owner Arthur Blank against placing too much trust in Belichick.
Kraft purportedly described Belichick as aloof, arrogant, and prone to rubbing people the wrong way, suggesting that establishing a close relationship with him would be challenging.
Moreover, Belichick reportedly conveyed to Falcons leadership that his top assistants were better suited to subordinate roles than taking on leadership positions. Initially considering Belichick for a pivotal role, Blank ultimately opted for Raheem Morris.
Former NFL player Damien Woody expressed incredulity upon hearing these claims during a discussion on the UNSPORTSMANLIKE Radio Show.
Woody criticized Blank’s reported desire for a “family-like and collaborative environment” within the team, emphasizing the primacy of winning. He argued that passing up the opportunity to enlist a football strategist of Belichick’s caliber due to interpersonal dynamics seemed shortsighted.
Woody’s viewpoint holds weight, although it’s worth noting that Belichick’s track record without Brady, spanning back to his pre-Patriots tenure, hasn’t been particularly stellar.
Since Brady’s departure from Foxboro, Belichick’s standing has suffered a significant blow. Not only have reports emerged questioning his management style and interpersonal relationships, but there have also been notable shortcomings in talent scouting, development, and game victories.
Ultimately, while individuals are often willing to tolerate challenging personalities if they yield results, NFL teams may now harbor doubts about Bill Belichick’s ability to deliver.
