Could the New Orleans Saints potentially swing a blockbuster trade for Dallas Cowboys edge rusher Micah Parsons?
David Latham of Last Word On Sports came up with a list of several teams that could serve as possible landing spots for Parsons, and the Saints made his list.
Latham notes that New Orleans does not have much of an answer on the edge, and even though he acknowledges that the Saints would have to finagle the salary cap in order to make it happen, he states that general manager Mickey Loomis is known to go all in.
But why would the Cowboys trade Parsons?
Well, recently, a report surfaced that Dallas was growing tired of Parsons’ behavior, and with the superstar defender now eligible for a contract extension, that could get in the way of negotiations.
Of course, Parsons still has two years remaining on his deal after the Cowboys exercised his fifth-year option, so Dallas does not have to be in any rush to move him.
It’s also entirely possible that the report about Parsons’ antics was untrue, and even if it did have some merit, it seems hard to imagine the Cowboys are going to jettison one of the league’s top pass rushers just because of some seemingly minor personal differences.
Plus, Dallas has to pay quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, so owner Jerry Jones and Co. may just be mulling all of their options right now.
Parsons is coming off of a 2023 campaign in which he racked up 64 tackles, 14 sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery en route to his third straight Pro Bowl appearance.
The 24-year-old has also earned a pair of First-Team All-Pro selections and has finished top three in Defensive Player of the Year voting in all three of his NFL seasons.
The Cowboys took Micah Parsons with the 12th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.
