The Houston Texans swung a trade with the Buffalo Bills to acquire star wide receiver Stefon Diggs recently and are now widely regarded as legitimate contenders because of it.

Texans safety Jimmie Ward was recently asked about what it meant for his team to add Diggs, and he didn’t hold back on his feelings about the trade.

“It’s going to be pretty cool,” Ward said, via Aaron Wilson of KPRC. “He’s a great talent, came in this league, did what he was supposed to do. I feel like [DeMeco Ryans] and Nick [Caserio] did a great job of going and getting him, making that trade. I feel like he’s going to make our team better.”

Houston traded a 2025 second-round pick for Diggs.

Diggs is coming off of a 2023 campaign in which he played every game and hauled in 107 receptions for 1,183 yards and eight touchdowns.

While those numbers look great on the surface, it was actually a strange year for Diggs, who logged five 100-yard performances over his first six games and then did not register a single 100-yard outing the rest of the way.

The 30-year-old made the Pro Bowl in each of his four seasons with the Bills, with his best year coming in 2020 when he led the NFL in both receptions (127) and receiving yards (1,535) to go along with eight scores. He also earned a First-Team All-Pro selection that year.

Diggs, who played his collegiate football at the University of Maryland, was originally selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

He spent the first five years of his career with the Vikings before being dealt to Buffalo in March 2020.

We’ll see if Stefon Diggs can help make the Texans Super Bowl contenders in 2024.
