The Super Bowl has come and gone, leaving the Philadelphia Eagles to focus on the upcoming season after falling short of reaching the pinnacle game. With a roster riddled with gaps, general manager Howie Roseman and his team must now turn their attention to shoring up their weaknesses for the 2024 campaign.
In a recent article by Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine, an intriguing trade target has been proposed for the Eagles: safety Budda Baker of the Arizona Cardinals. This suggestion has garnered attention across the NFL community, with figures like Eliot Shorr-Parks of 94WIP also advocating for the move.
Shorr-Parks even proposed a hypothetical trade scenario involving Haason Reddick reuniting with the Cardinals in exchange for Baker.
Ballentine highlights the Eagles’ attempts to address their safety issues during the previous season, notably with the acquisition of Kevin Byard. However, Byard’s performance fell short of expectations, raising doubts about his future impact, especially considering his age nearing 31.
In contrast, Baker, at 28, presents a younger and potentially more dynamic option for the Eagles’ secondary, which struggled to contain opposing quarterbacks last season.
With the appointment of Vic Fangio as defensive coordinator, Roseman is expected to prioritize adding playmakers to the roster. However, the team faces significant challenges in free agency, compounded by the possible departure of defensive tackle Fletcher Cox.
Additionally, the linebacker position looms as a major concern, with only two linebackers currently on the roster. The Eagles are banking on the allure of playing under Fangio and new linebackers coach Bobby King to attract potential signings, with speculation already swirling about players like Azeez Al-Shaair potentially joining due to his prior success under King’s tutelage.
Despite the disappointments of the past season, Eagles fans can rest assured that Roseman and the front office will leave no stone unturned in their quest to rebuild and contend once again.
