Eric Ebron may be exactly what the Packers’ offense needs

Why Eric Ebron and the Packers Would Be A Perfect Fit

First and foremost, the Packers have to provide Rodgers with more athleticism. Jimmy Graham is a quality football player still, but he is no longer the kind of guy that can power an offense. He is more of a lethal No. 2 tight end at this stage of his career.

Adding a talent like Ebron would be the shot in the arm that the Packers desperately need. As he showed in 2018, Ebron is a dangerous target in the red zone. While there are some concerns about drops, he creates mismatches against every defense he plays against.

Green Bay will need to add more wide receivers to the roster, but Ebron is capable of playing outside as well as the inside tight end position.

With the speed and athleticism that Ebron possesses, Matt LaFleur’s offense would work wonders with him on board. Green Bay would be able to utilize Ebron as a vertical threat, but he would also be able to find seams over the middle. Rodgers needs that kind of weapon at this stage of his career.

Add in the fact that Ebron’s price tag shouldn’t be too high and the Packers would make a lot of sense. Brian Gutekunst has shown no hesitation to make big signings, as was showcased last offseason with the additions of Preston Smith, Za’Darius Smith, and Adrian Amos.

This offseason, the Packers have to focus on offense. Unfortunately, the Green Bay offense was exposed against the 49ers’ lethal defense.

Ebron would not be a one-move fix for the Packers. However, he could be part of an offensive re-tooling that must happen for Green Bay to get back into Super Bowl contention.

Expect to see the Packers look to make some key moves this offseason in free agency. Gutekunst must hit in the draft as well, but signing Eric Ebron to a reasonable one or two-year contract in free agency would be a huge step in the right direction.
