Could the Minnesota Vikings attempt to make a play for Cincinnati Bengals defensive lineman Trey Hendrickson?
Hendrickson recently requested a trade from the Bengals, and Trevor Squire of Heavy.com thinks the Vikings could represent a possible destination.
Minnesota tried to sign Hendrickson in free agency back in 2021, so there is some history here, and the Vikings may be interested in adding another pass rusher.
Hendrickson is coming off of a fantastic 2023 campaign in which he played 17 games and racked up 43 tackles, 17.5 sacks and three forced fumbles en route to his third straight Pro Bowl appearance.
The 30-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Florida Atlantic, was originally selected by the New Orleans Saints in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
He spent the first four years of his career with the Saints but only made a minimal impact over his first three seasons before finally breaking out in 2020. That year, Hendrickson rattled off 25 tackles, 13.5 sacks and a force fumble.
That ensuing offseason, Hendrickson signed with Cincinnati.
He had a terrific year in his first season with the Bengals, recording 34 tackles, 14 sacks and three forced fumbles. Hendrickson took a bit of a step back in 2022, finishing with 32 tackles, eight sacks and three forced fumbles, but he obviously bounced back in a big way in 2023.
The Vikings lost superstar edge rusher Danielle Hunter to free agency, but they were able to sign Jonathan Greenard and Andrew Van Ginkel to replace him. We’ll see if they can also add Hendrickson via trade.
