It has been a rough offseason for Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys, and ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith is reveling in it.

While Smith is friendly with Jones, he is a known Cowboys hater and has regularly preached the “what can go wrong, will go wrong” mantra for Dallas.

During a recent episode of ESPN First Take, Smith ripped Jones and the Cowboys’ front office for what has been a rather brutal offseason.

Dallas only signed one player in free agency, inking linebacker Eric Kendricks to a one-year deal. It lost numerous key pieces and also has not made much progress on contract extension talks for its best players.

Both quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb are preparing to enter the final years of their respective deals.

The Cowboys actually seem comfortable with allowing Prescott to play out 2024 and then test free agency next March. He is reportedly seeking $60 million annually, and Dallas may be banking on the fact that no team will offer him that much, which would allow the Cowboys to re-sign him on a more economical deal. Jones recently said that he views Prescott as the team’s quarterback for the long haul.

Meanwhile, Lamb may end up holding out of training camp if Dallas is unable to strike a long-term deal with the star pass-catcher.

Also, edge rusher Micah Parsons became eligible for a contract extension this offseason, but it was recently reported that the Cowboys are growing tired of Parsons’ behavior.

In spite of Jones consistently saying that Dallas is “all in,” it has been a disastrous couple of months for the Cowboys, who have very tough financial constraints.

We’ll see if Jerry Jones can get anything done with what’s left of the offseason.
