New York Giants Drafting Quarterback Would Be ‘Not Smart’

The New York Giants own the sixth overall pick in the NFL Draft this week, and many feel that they should take a quarterback at that spot.

Don’t count former NFL offensive lineman and current Fox Sports analyst Willie Colon among those people.

During a recent episode of The Carton Show, Colon said that he does not think it would be a good idea for the Giants to draft a signal-caller.

Colon feels that New York needs to address other areas of its team first before taking a quarterback and thinks that Big Blue would be better off drafting someone like LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers or Georgia tight end Brock Bowers in order to build up the roster first.

While Colon makes a valid point, the problem with that assessment is that this is supposed to be one of the deepest quarterback drafts ever, so it might end up being a mistake for the Giants to pass on a signal-caller this year.

Of course, there is a middle ground here.

New York can always take Nabers or Bowers at No. 6 and then potentially take a quarterback in the second round. Or, it can trade back into the first round for one.

Oregon’s Bo Nix is a name that has been thrown around as someone who could slip to the late first round or early second round, so he could end up being available for the Giants. Others like South Carolina’s Spencer Rattler, who may even fall to Round 3.

Right now, New York has Daniel Jones under center, and while Jones was impressive in 2022, he had a miserable 2023 campaign that ended in a torn ACL after just six games.

We’ll see what the Giants decide to do on Thursday evening.
