Cowboys’ Mike McCarthy Makes Big Move Amid Hot Seat Rumors

Many felt that Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy would lose his job after his team’s disastrous playoff exit this past season, but owner Jerry Jones decided to retain him.

But apparently, McCarthy is preparing for the worst.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, McCarthy has hired a new agent. More specifically, he hired Don Yee, who also represents names such as Tom Brady, Sean Payton and Jim Harbaugh.

It’s not that McCarthy has been a failure for the Cowboys. Far from it.

McCarthy became head coach of Dallas in 2020, and since going 6-10 in his first season, he has reeled off three straight 12-win campaigns.

Of course, the lack of playoff success is what had many calling for McCarthy’s job back in January.

While the Cowboys have been putting together plenty of wins and have won a pair of NFC East division titles under McCarthy, they have won just one playoff game, going 1-3 overall.

Most recently, Dallas fell to the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card Round.

In McCarthy’s defense, it’s not like the Cowboys have had a whole lot of postseason success over the past several decades.

Since last winning the Super Bowl during the 1995-96 campaign, Dallas has not made it past the Divisional Round and has only won four playoff games in total throughout that span.

McCarthy also enjoyed a very prosperous run with the Packers from 2006 through 2018, going 135-85-2 with six NFC North division titles, nine playoff appearances and, most importantly, a Super Bowl championship which he notched during the 2010-11 season.

If the Cowboys end up disappointing again in 2024, Mike McCarthy may end up having to look elsewhere for work, even if it isn’t entirely his fault.
