Fantasy Football: Buy-Low, Sell-High trade candidates for Week 5

Sell-high candidates

Mike Davis (RB, Carolina Panthers): For the second consecutive week, Mike Davis proved he is the RB to own on the Panthers until Christian McCaffrey returns. During Carolina’s upset win over the Cardinals, Davis garnered 21 touches for 111 yards and a touchdown.

With that being said, there is some slight concern with him moving forward. Even though Davis saw the most touches for the Panthers, Reggie Bonnafon also had 12 touches for 71 yards and a score in Week 4.

Davis isn’t going to be the starter for the rest of the season and even with Bonnafon being placed on injured reserve, his value isn’t going to see much of an increase in the upcoming weeks. Seeing that McCaffrey could return sooner rather than later too, it’s time to begin shipping Davis elsewhere before his value depreciates in fantasy football.

Devin Singletary (RB, Buffalo Bills): The Bills, in a matter of one season, have shifted from being a run-oriented team to one that would prefer to have the ball in Josh Allen’s hands. To illustrate the difference in Buffalo’s offense, they went from being the 21st ranked team in pass attempts in 2019 to the ninth-ranked team so far in 2020.

While Allen has been one of the best QBs in fantasy football thus far, Devin Singletary has been the No. 1 back for the Bills in the past two weeks. With rookie Zack Moss missing the past two weeks with a toe injury, Singletary has combined for 34.7 points in his absence.

Comparatively, in the first two weeks with Moss also getting touches, Singletary combined for only 19.9 points. Provided that, it is probably wise to move on from Singletary before Moss begins eating into his value again moving forward.

Jerick McKinnon (RB, San Francisco 49ers): Another fill-in running back that has been thriving due to the team’s starter being out with injury is Jerick McKinnon. Given the knee injury to Raheem Mostert, McKinnon has handled the majority of the workload for the 49ers in the last two weeks.

During Sunday night’s narrow defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles, McKinnon flashed his dual-threat ability, scoring 22.7 fantasy points (sixth-most among RBs in Week 4). As good as he’s looked in his debut season with San Francisco, it’s tough to believe that 20+ point performances are going to be a common theme for McKinnon moving forward.

First and foremost, Mostert is on track to return to the offense soon after missing the past two games. Plus, even if Mostert misses another week or two, Kyle Shanahan tends to utilize all of his running backs, which limits McKinnon’s ceiling.

Odell Beckham Jr. (WR, Cleveland Browns): Finally, finally, finally. The Cleveland Browns discovered that Odell Beckham Jr. is good at playing football and they are better when he has the ball in his hands.

The Pro Bowl wide receiver led all WRs in Week 4 with 154 scrimmage yards and three touchdowns versus the Dallas Cowboys. Despite his tremendous output, it’s hard to believe that his usage will be a consistent commodity week-to-week in Kevin Stefanski’s run-heavy offense.

Not to mention, Beckham isn’t going to score 50-yard rushing touchdowns every week moving forward. As much of a fan I am of Beckham, now is the time to quickly sell the playmaking wide receiver while his value is through the roof after his latest showing versus a putrid Cowboys defense.

Tre’Quan Smith (WR, New Orleans Saints): The New Orleans Saints have direly missed Michael Thomas in the offense as Drew Brees looks to have met face-to-face with Father Time. Amid Thomas’ absence from an ankle injury, Tre’Quan Smith has emerged as a viable target for Brees in the past three weeks.

The Central Florida product has accumulated 13 receptions for 182 yards and two touchdowns in his past three games. Just this past weekend, Smith posted 21.4 points as he hauled in two touchdowns from Brees while the Saints edged out the Detroit Lions.

Despite Smith stepping up for New Orleans, Thomas — and Jared Cook — are set to return from injuries soon, which causes Smith’s season-long value to decline drastically. While you likely can’t get a huge return for Smith, getting a player who can contribute for the rest of the season could be a smart move in fantasy football right now.
