Former NFL Players Makes Wild Prediction For Buccaneers’ Baker Mayfield

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made a decision that didn’t surprise a lot of people when they named Baker Mayfield as their starting quarterback. He beat out Kyle Trask, a 2021 second-round pick in the NFL Draft, for the job in a training camp competition.

Despite some shaky performances this offseason, Mayfield always felt to have the upper hand on Trask. He has vastly more starting experience as the No. 1 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns, which certainly played a part. It should be noted, though, that Trask did show improvement throughout the offseason and played well with his reps.

Mayfield will now be tasked with having to replace a legend in Tom Brady under center. Brady, who was the starter in Tampa Bay for the last three seasons, opted to ride off into retirement earlier this offseason.

Many people don’t believe the Buccaneers will find success in 2023 regardless of who was under center. They won the NFC South in 2022 but managed to go it with a losing record, going 8-9. Now without Brady, people are certainly down on the team this season.

But, there are a few who believe the team will find some success. One of those people is former NFL player Emmanuel Acho. During a recent episode of Speak on FS1, Acho revealed a bold prediction that he has for Mayfield and the Buccaneers this upcoming season.

Acho makes a good point about Mayfield being able to lead the Browns to success a few years ago, beating out some excellent competition. But, that level of performance has been rare for the Oklahoma product, who hasn’t had a winning record outside that 2020 season.

Mayfield will have to play better than he did last season with the Carolina Panthers, who he will now be facing off with twice as the Buccaneers starter. He went 1-5 as their starter, getting benched twice before being released and landing with the Los Angeles Rams.
