The New Orleans Saints are at a crossroads with star cornerback Marshon Lattimore, stirring speculation across the league about a potential offseason trade.

The organization’s quiet renegotiation of Lattimore’s contract last December, a move that enables easier facilitation of a trade, has become a focal point of discussion. Particularly, any potential move involving Lattimore would be more viable from a financial standpoint after June 1, due to salary cap considerations.

Adding fuel to the trade rumors, the Saints made a strategic move during the draft, trading up in the second round to select Alabama cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry. This decision suggests a possible shift in the team’s defensive strategy and preparation for life after Lattimore.

McKinstry, known for his agility and playmaking skills, represents a fresh, young talent that could fill the void if Lattimore departs.

Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team recently listed Lattimore as a player that could be traded following the 2024 NFL Draft.

Lattimore’s performance in the 2023 season was solid. He recorded 48 total tackles, had an interception, and defended eight passes, showing his value to the team and potential interest from other teams looking to bolster their secondary.

As the New Orleans Saints recalibrate their roster and cap space, the possibility of trading Lattimore looms large as a legitimate possibility.

The team’s actions in the coming months will reveal much about their long-term intentions and how they plan to contend in the competitive NFC South.
