Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos are set to start the 2023 NFL season with a matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders. It’s a game that will tell a lot about what this team is capable of being with new head coach Sean Payton taking over. However, it’s also a game that will start what Wilson hopes to be a career resurgence after a brutal 2022 season.

Despite all of the optimism in Denver about the Broncos turning things around, the media has not been so high on their chances of doing so.

Former NFL star wide receiver James Jones took some time to blast Wilson on Tuesday. Many media members have done the same in recent days. Jones made it clear that he has no faith in Wilson’s ability to get things turned around this season.

Wilson is coming off of a rough all-around 2022 season with the Broncos, to put it lightly. He completed 60.5 percent of his pass attempts for 3,524 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. In addition to his passing numbers, he picked up 277 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

Granted, those aren’t the worst numbers that a quarterback has ever put up. Unfortunately for Wilson, they were not becoming of a quarterback who has been viewed as an elite superstar for years.

Much of the blame for the Broncos’ struggles last season were put on former head coach Nathaniel Hackett. He was fired after just one season as the team’s head coach. There will be absolutely zero excuses for the team under new head coach Sean Payton.

This is the last chance for Russell Wilson to get his name back among the NFL’s elite. If he blows this opportunity, there won’t be anyone left in his corner. The Broncos have to get things right this season.

Expect to see all eyes on Wilson in Week 1 against the Raiders. Hopefully, Wilson and the Broncos are able to right the ship and get back on track.
