Giants Named Potential Matt Ryan Trade Destination In Offseason

Matt Ryan, Falcons, Giants

There has been speculation in recent weeks that the New York Giants could look to make a move at the quarterback position this offseason. Daniel Jones simply has not proven that he can be the long-term answer and the Giants can’t afford to waste more time. That has led some to believe that the Giants could be a potential trade destination for current Atlanta Falcons starting quarterback Matt Ryan.

Granted, there would be quite a few pros and quite a few cons to trading for Ryan. One of the biggest negatives of the move would be that Ryan is already 36 years old and towards the end of his career. This would be a move that would only last a few years at the most.

However, the biggest positive of a potential trade for Ryan would be that the Giants would become a more legitimate contender now. They have built a solid roster, but have not gotten anything close to the maximum production out of their talent. That has to change in one way or another.

Matt Johnson of SportsNaut suggested that the Giants could be a trade destination for Matt Ryan this offseason.

Ryan is certainly not an elite quarterback, but he is a far more efficient passer than Jones and he’d do a much better job protecting the football. That benefits New York in two very important ways. First, it means Kenny Golladay, Kadarius Toney and Sterling Shepard would finally get on-target throws consistently. It also creates sustained drives and more points, making life much easier for an underrated Giants defense.

While bringing in another quarterback now would be easier to watch, the Giants are nowhere near being Super Bowl contenders. Ryan would likely be close to retirement by the time the franchise got to that point. That alone makes this a very questionable idea.

Ryan is coming off of a 2021 season with the Falcons that saw him complete 67 percent of his pass attempts for 3,968 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. Those numbers aren’t bad, but they aren’t great either. Would this move really take the Giants back to being a playoff contender?

It’s always interesting to consider potential trade ideas. But, in this case, the move would not make a ton of sense. That being said, the Giants haven’t made a ton of moves in recent years that have panned out or made a lot of sense.

Expect to hear a ton of rumors surrounding the Giants and the quarterback situation this offseason. Matt Ryan may end up being a trade target, but this idea doesn’t sound all that great to us.
