NFL Exec Thinks Cowboys Could Trade For Tee Higgins

The Dallas Cowboys are in need of some wide receiver depth behind CeeDee Lamb, but due to financial constraints, they weren’t able to add any pieces in free agency.

Could they try and swing a trade with the Cincinnati Bengals for Tee Higgins?

A former NFL executive tells the NFL Analysis Network that he thinks the Cowboys will jump in the fray if the Bengals place Higgins on the trade block.

“There are a lot of teams with known interest in Higgins,” the former exec said. “However, I do believe that Jerry Jones would be involved if the Bengals truly make him available. The Cowboys are looking to make a splash if it presents itself and Higgins would be that kind of splash.”

Higgins requested a trade from Cincinnati last month after the team slapped a franchise tag on him, preventing him from reaching free agency.

The Bengals have until the middle of July to reach a long-term agreement with Higgins, and if they are unable to strike a pact with him by then, they will have to hope that he signs his franchise tender and plays out 2024 on a one-year deal.

Cincinnati is trying to win a Super Bowl, so it would likely prefer to keep Higgins around for one more season and revisit the situation with him next spring, but if Higgins forces the issue or threatens to sit out, the Bengals may be forced to move him.

The Cowboys have been under fire for not making any significant moves this offseason, but to be fair, they did not have the cap room to do so. Also, Lamb, Dak Prescott and Micah Parsons are all angling for contract extensions, so Dallas needs to save money for the future.

Would the Cowboys try and acquire Higgins knowing they would have to pay him handsomely long term?

Right now, Dallas is in a pretty tough spot. It will have a difficult time truly bolstering its roster until it knows what it is doing with its three top players.

Unless the Cowboys are able to somehow make a deal with the Bengals for Tee Higgins, they will probably have to rely on the NFL Draft later this month.
