The Buffalo Bills traded Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans in a blockbuster deal that shook the NFL landscape earlier this week.

It was a move that caught many off guard, especially given the fact that the Bills had to absorb a $31 million cap hit by trading Diggs.

It would have actually been cheaper to keep him on the roster.

However, it was becoming more and more clear that tension existed between Diggs and the Bills, which ultimately resulted in Buffalo moving him for a 2025 second-round draft pick.

Fox Sports analyst Skip Bayless said on Undisputed that he felt the Bills “hit the point of no return” with Diggs. Basically, they were not able to win with him, and there must have been so many issues behind the scenes that Buffalo felt the best course of action was trading him.

The problem for the Bills is that this now leaves their receiving corps very bare.

Not only did Buffalo send Diggs packing, but it also lost fellow wide out Gabe Davis to free agency last month. As of now, Khalil Shakir and Curtis Samuel are the Bills’ top two receivers on the depth chart, which isn’t exactly an enviable situation.

Of course, Buffalo can always make a trade to acquire another receiver, and there are still some free agents available (the Bills have been mentioned as a potential destination for Odell Beckham Jr.). Plus, there is always the NFL Draft later this month where Buffalo can pick up a pass-catcher or two.

The Bills initially acquired Diggs in a trade with the Minnesota Vikings back in March 2020.

Diggs made the Pro Bowl in each of his four seasons in Buffalo, also earning a First-Team All-Pro selection during his debut campaign with the club when he led the NFL in both receptions and receiving yards.

This past year, the 30-year-old hauled in 107 receptions for 1,183 yards and eight touchdowns.
