Giants Provide Encouraging Update For Offensive Star in Week 15

New York Giants
NFL Analysis Network

The New York Giants offense has looked pretty solid the last month with Tommy DeVito leading the way. The undrafted rookie quarterback has helped the team put together a three-game winning streak, keeping their slim playoff hopes alive.

He will look to keep the positive momentum going in Week 15 when the Giants head on the road to take on the New Orleans Saints. He could be getting another weapon to work with as well, as the team shared a major announcement about tight end Darren Waller.

Waller was designated for return today and will be practicing with the team. The former All-Pro last played in Week 8 against the New York Jets when his hamstring injury became too much to overcome and he was knocked out of the game.

NFL News & Rumors: Darren Waller & New York Giants Updates

This is huge news for the Giants as there were high expectations for Waller coming into the season. Many thought he could be a difference maker for the passing offense were he able to stay healthy and on the field.

His production was sporadic, but when the offensive line gave the quarterback time to work in the pocket, Waller was able to make an impact. In Week 7 against the Washington Commanders, with Tyrod Taylor leading the way, Waller had his best game of the season, catching seven passes for 98 yards and a touchdown.

His presence on the field should help DeVito and the offense take things to another level. They have been consistently improving each week, but Waller is someone who can be a major playmaker when healthy.

Staying healthy, however, has been a concern. Hamstring injuries have derailed him in the last few seasons, as this is the third consecutive season he has missed at least five games. Available once again, it will be interesting to see how he is used in a DeVito-led offense compared to his usage with Daniel Jones and Taylor.

NFL News & Rumors: Darren Waller & New York Giants Updates

The Illinois and Syracuse product has shown he isn’t afraid to push the ball downfield, which plays into Waller’s strengths. What has been a methodical, slow-moving offense at times should be much more explosive with Waller in the mix, providing the Giants with another downfield threat along with Jalin Hyatt and Darius Slayton.

Despite appearing in only eight games this season, Waller is still second on the team with 36 receptions and 384 yards. He is tied for the third most receiving touchdowns as well, which speaks volumes to how anemic the Giants’ passing offense has been this season.
