Packers Among Teams Linked To Potential Davante Adams Trade

Davante Adams, Packers

A year-and-a-half ago, the Green Bay Packers bid adieu to long-time wide receiver Davante Adams, trading him to the Las Vegas Raiders for a couple of draft picks.

The deal was met with surprise from around the league, as Aaron Rodgers was still under center for the Packers at the time and the trade seemed like the front office waving the white flag as far as contending.

Green Bay proceeded to go just 8-9 last season, and Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets.

Well, here we are in 2023, and the Packers have gotten off to a 2-1 start under the direction of young quarterback Jordan Love. Meanwhile, the Raiders are just 1-2 and are coming off of an ugly 23-18 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers which resulted in Adams criticizing Las Vegas’ organizational culture and saying he does not have time to wait around.

That has prompted some trade speculation concerning Adams, and Green Bay is one of the teams being bandied about as a possible suitor.

Matt Lombardo of Fan Buzz listed off the Packers as one of six potential destinations for Adams in the event of a trade, and it’s certainly an interesting proposition.

Obviously, Adams wants to win now, which is why he is frustrated with the current state of affairs in Vegas (the Raiders went just 6-11 in his debut season last year). Would he accept a trade to a team that features an inexperienced signal-caller like Love? Perhaps.

Love has flashed considerable potential thus far in 2023, throwing seven touchdowns and just one interception over the first three weeks. Yes, he is completing just 53.1 percent of his passes, but growing pains are expected for the fourth-year talent who is in his first season as a full-time starter.

One thing is for sure: the Packers could certainly use a proven No. 1 receiver, and Adams would fit that bill.

Green Bay appears to have a great shot of capturing a very winnable AFC North division, and bringing Davante Adams into the fold would increase the club’s chances of success significantly.
