Green Bay Packers offensive lineman David Bakhtiari has been sidelined for the team’s last three games due to a knee injury, and on Monday, head coach Matt LaFleur offered a vague response when asked if Bakhtiari would be back this season.
“I’ll let Dave comment on that,” said LaFleur, according to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. “I know he wanted to talk to you guys later on.”
The Packers placed Bakhtiari on the injured reserve list last week. That means Bakhtiari will be sidelined for at least four weeks, but many are assuming that he will be out for the rest of the year.
Bakhtiari is one of the best offensive tackles in the NFL when healthy, but unfortunately, a clean bill of health is something that has been hard for him to come by the last few years.
The 32-year-old has not played a full season since 2019. Since 2020, Bakhtiari has played a grand total of 25 games, and in the last three years, he has appeared in just 13 contests.
Bakhtiari, who played his collegiate football at the University of Colorado, was originally selected by Green Bay in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft.
He was immediately inserted as a starter along the Packers’ offensive line during his rookie campaign and it didn’t take him long to establish himself as one of the better tackles in football.
By his fourth season, David Bakhtiari was a Pro Bowler. He has made three Pro Bowl appearances overall and has earned a pair of First-Team All-Pro selections.
The Packers have gotten off to a 2-2 start in the Jordan Love era. Green Bay looked impressive over its first three weeks of the season, highlighted by a thrilling come-from-behind win over the New Orleans Saints in Week 3. However, the Packers fell flat in a 34-20 loss to the Detroit Lions last Thursday.
Green Bay will aim to get back on track when it takes on the Las Vegas Raiders next Monday.
