Packers Coach Shares Honest Assessment of Jordan Love

When the Green Bay Packers and long-time quarterback Aaron Rodgers parted ways this past offseason, people didn’t know what to expect. How would the Jordan Love era begin?

Love had massive shoes to fill, and while the Packers did take him with the 26th overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, he was a largely unproven talent.

Well, we have gotten a glimpse of Love over the first four weeks of 2023, and while the results have been mixed, there is no doubt that the young signal-caller has flashed considerable potential. Not only that, but Love has not seem the slightest bit bothered by all of the pressure that comes with being the quarterback for one of the NFL’s most popular teams.

“Jordan is pretty even-keeled,” said Packers quarterbacks coach Tom Clements, via the official team website. “He’s pretty much the same way he’s been the last year at least when I’ve been with him. He works at it, he’s intelligent. You always anticipate based on how he’s practiced and done in the preseason and years past, you have an idea of how he might do when he becomes the full-time starter, and he’s confirmed our thoughts. He’s a good player.”

Love has thrown for 901 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions while completing 56.1 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 88 thus far this season.

Clements adds that he thinks Love will improve in the mental aspect with more experience.

“He only has five games of experience,” he said. “As he plays more, he’s going to recognize things that he’s seen previously in games and if he reacted correctly, that’ll trigger in his mind. If previously he didn’t react the way he would’ve liked to, that triggers in your mind, too. And then as you see more defenses and what they’re trying to do you’re going to recognize it and hopefully adjust a little quicker because you’ve seen it before.”

Jordan Love had made 10 appearances and just one start prior to this season, totaling three touchdowns and three picks during those outings.

The Packers are 2-2 and will take on the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday.
