Packers’ President Offers Honest Thoughts On Jordan Love

Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers

Jordan Love’s status as the Green Bay Packers‘ franchise quarterback is up in the air, and team president Mark Murphy addressed the situation this week.

At the beginning of the season, Murphy said that it would probably take until the midway point of 2023 until he could determine exactly where things stood with Love.

Well, the Packers have played eight of their 17 games, so they are essentially halfway through the season now. Still, Murphy is not ready to commit to an opinion on Love one way or the other.

“It wouldn’t be fair to judge Jordan now since there are so many other factors that have contributed to the offense’s poor performance (e.g., dropped passes, penalties, mental errors),” Murphy said in a question-and-answer session on the Packers’ official team website. “We should have a much better sense regarding Jordan at the end of the season.”

That’s completely fair, but it has to be a tad worrisome for Love that Murphy has kicked the can further down the road in terms of when he wants to make at true assessment of the young signal-caller.

Murphy did add that the team still has faith in Love.

“Young players often take time to find consistency, but we still very much believe in Jordan and are excited to see his continued development,” he added.

Love got off to an impressive start this season, leading the Packers to a 2-1 record over their first three games and guiding them to a thrilling comeback win over the New Orleans Saints. During that span, he threw seven touchdowns and just one interception.

However, since then, Green Bay has gone just 1-4 (which included a four-game losing streak that the Packers snapped in Week 9) with Love totaling five touchdowns and seven picks in those five contests.

Love had a strong performance in the Packers’ win over the Los Angeles Rams last weekend, going 20-for-26 with 228 yards and a touchdown.

Still, it’s going to take a lot more than that for Love to win over Green Bay’s front office.
