It’s surely far too early for the Green Bay Packers to start thinking about a Jordan Love replacement, but that won’t stop people from typical conjecture.
However, should Love continue to struggle for the remainder of the season, it’s entirely possible that the Packers will begin to explore alternatives.
Sayre Bedinger of FanSided posed some options this week, and among them was Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray.
A few years ago, Murray was the toast of the desert, as the 2019 No. 1 overall pick was flashing what appeared to be limitless potential over his first couple of seasons with the Cardinals.
However, it didn’t take very long for Murray’s attitude to start wearing thin on Arizona’s organization, and pretty soon, his talent became secondary.
To make matters worse, Murray tore his ACL late last season and remains out. Chances are, he won’t be back this year, and it stands to reason that the University of Oklahoma product has played his final snap as a member of the Cardinals.
Could the Packers seriously consider swinging a deal for Murray?
Well, here’s the thing: the 26-year-old is in the middle of a $230.5 million contract, so he wouldn’t exactly be a cheap option for Green Bay. The Packers’ cap would take a major hit bringing Murray aboard, but the question is whether or not the tradeoff is worth it.
There’s no doubt that Kyler Murray has talent. Before going down with the injury last year, he had thrown for 3,787 yards, 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing 69.2 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 100.6 in 14 games. Additionally, he rushed for 423 yards and five scores.
As for Love, the 24-year-old got off to a solid start over his first three games this season, leading the Packers to a 2-1 mark and totaling seven touchdowns and just one pick.
However, the past two weeks have been disastrous for Love, as he has thrown one touchdown and five interceptions in a pair of Green Bay losses.
