The Houston Texans already have an impressive receiving corps, but imagine how lethal their aerial attack would be if they were able to add San Francisco 49ers star Brandon Aiyuk?
Bleacher Report’s Maurice Moton floats the possibility, suggesting that the Texans trade the 23rd overall pick and a third-rounder to the 49ers in exchange for Aiyuk and a sixth-rounder.
Why would San Francisco do this?
Well, the Niners are likely going to have difficulty keeping Aiyuk long term, and Aiyuk has already hinted at leaving the Bay Area in the future.
The 49ers have already committed a whole lot of money to some players on their roster, and they also have to worry about paying Brock Purdy and even more guys as time progresses.
That could make extending Aiyuk a rather arduous task, so San Francisco may just want to cash in on the top wide receiver when it still has the chance.
Meanwhile, Houston would bring Aiyuk into a group of receivers that already includes Nico Collins and Tank Dell, and with C.J. Stroud throwing them all the football, it would be quite the duty to thwart the Texans’ passing game.
Aiyuk is coming off of a fantastic 2023 campaign in which he played 16 games and hauled in 75 receptions for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns.
The 25-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Arizona State, was selected by the Niners with the 25th overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft.
After a couple of solid seasons to begin his career, Aiyuk broke out in 2022, catching 78 passes for 1,015 yards and eight scores. He then improved upon his output this past year.
The Texans went 10-7 and won the AFC South division title in 2023. They also defeated the Cleveland Browns in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs before falling to the Baltimore Ravens in the Divisional Round.
If Houston can add Brandon Aiyuk into the mix, there is no telling what the team would be able to accomplish next season.
