Well, after all of that, it’s looking like Jonathan Taylor will be back on the field for the Indianapolis Colts when they take on the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. No better news could be received than this for rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson.
The star running back was on the PUP list for the first four weeks of the season as he recovered from an ankle injury he suffered last year, but he was also involved in a contract dispute with the Colts which had many wondering if he would ever play for the team again.
Taylor asked for a trade during the offseason, and while Indianapolis gave him permission to seek one, nothing came to fruition, as Indy maintained a very high asking price for Taylor.
Now, Taylor has been activated and is eligible to play in Week 5. All indications are that he will be suiting up, and quarterback Anthony Richardson is thrilled for Taylor’s potential season debut.
“I’m excited just for him being able to come back on the field,” Richardson told Andrew Moore of Sports Illustrated. “I know it’s been a while for him being on the field. I know he’s excited to be back and I’m excited to see what he does with me.”
Of course, Richardson has yet to play with Taylor, as the young signal-caller is in his first NFL season. But Richardson says that his relationship with Taylor is already solid.
“He’s a great guy,” Richardson said. “I love him. We talk almost every other day, whenever I see him – communicate. I think our relationship is pretty tight and we’ll see how it is on the field.”
When healthy, Jonathan Taylor is one of the NFL’s best halfbacks. Two years ago, he led the league in both rushing yards (1,811) and rushing touchdowns (18), and in just 11 games last season, he totaled 861 yards and four scores on the ground.
The Colts are 2-2 thus far in 2023.
