Colts Could Be Team To Watch As Trade Suitor For Mike Gesicki

The Indianapolis Colts have gotten off to a rather surprising 3-2 start this season and have vaulted themselves into a first-place tie in the AFC South.

The Colts’ record is even more impressive when you consider the fact that they have been forced to alternate between Anthony Richardson and Gardner Minshew under center through the first five weeks as a result of a couple of different injuries for Richardson. Not only that, but Indianapolis was without running back Jonathan Taylor for the first four games.

That being said, it’s pretty clear that Indy needs to make some roster upgrades between now and the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline, and Bleacher Report’s NFL staff has come up with a pretty interesting target for the club: New England Patriots tight end Mike Gesicki.

The Patriots signed Gesicki to a one-year deal back in the spring, hoping that he would bolster an aerial attack that needed some extra juice. However, things have not worked out that way.

New England has gone just 1-4 over its first five games and is looking worse and worse each week. The Pats are now three games out of first place in the AFC East, and it’s becoming more and more likely that they will sell off some pieces over the next few weeks.

Given that Gesicki will be a free agent at the end of the season, he seems like a prime candidate to be moved.

The Colts definitely make sense as a potential destination, as they have not exactly gotten much out of their tight ends thus far in 2023.

Gesicki has logged just 12 catches for 116 yards this year, but he has shown the ability to be a prominent threat in the passing game in the past. He posted back-to-back campaigns of over 700 yards in 2020 and 2021 while with the Miami Dolphins, and in 2019, he finished with 570 yards.

The 28-year-old would also likely come fairly cheap, so Indianapolis would not have to part with a major package in order to land him.
