Colts, Jets Angling Towards Major NFL Draft Day Trade

Could the Indianapolis Colts swing a deal with the New York Jets to move up to the 10th overall pick in the NFL Draft?

According to Kelsey Kramer of A to Z Sports, the Colts—who pick 15th—are looking to move into the top 10 in order to take University of Georgia tight end Brock Bowers.

Previously, Destin Adams of A to Z Sports had the Jets taking Bowers at No. 10 and listed the Colts and the Cincinnati Bengals (No. 18) as two other possible fits for the Bulldogs star.

The question is, would moving down make sense for New York?

It actually seems like it would.

The Jets are not a rebuilding team. They have a 40-year-old quarterback in Aaron Rodgers, so they are trying to win now. Their moves in free agency and through trades have made that obvious.

In that case, it may behoove Gang Green to stockpile as many picks as possible in order to fill out the roster with players who can contribute in 2024.

Some believe that the Jets will end up taking Bowers at No. 10, but New York really doesn’t need a tight end. It already has Tyler Conklin, and it took Jeremy Ruckert in the third round two years ago.

It would be more sensible for the Jets to either take an offensive lineman or potentially a wide receiver for some extra depth behind Garrett Wilson and Mike Williams, the latter of whom is coming off of a torn ACL. New York can move down in the draft order and still find guys to fill those holes.

Meanwhile, Indianapolis is in clear need of a tight end. Its top player at the position is currently Kylen Granson, who logged 30 catches for 368 yards and a touchdown this past season.

A trade between the Colts and the Jets may be mutually beneficial for both sides.
