As the 2023 NFL Draft continues drawing closer, the Jacksonville Jaguars have to feel good about the position that they’re in. It appears they’re ready to be serious contenders in the AFC.

The Jaguars had a much more successful 2022 season. Trevor Lawrence led them to the playoffs and even picked up a massive comeback win over the Chargers. Now, they are looking to build on that run and take it even further in 2023.

With that in mind, the Jaguars are interested in one particular sleeper running back in the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft.

According to a report from Ryan Fowler of The Draft Network, the Jaguars have had a visit with Tulane running back Tyjae Spears.

During the 2022 season with the Green Wave, Spears ended up carrying the football 229 times for 1,581 yards and 19 touchdowns. He also caught 22 passes for 256 yards and two touchdowns.

Spears would be a nice backup running back behind Travis Etienne. The Jaguars would be bringing in a back who needs some work, but has the ability to make big plays. He wouldn’t be asked to handle a huge workload, but this is the kind of depth move that makes an offense better.

All of that being said, it will be interesting to see what the Jaguars do in the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft. Spears certainly appears to be a potential target and would make a ton of sense. He’s a prospect to keep a close eye on.
