The New York Jets have set their sights on a Super Bowl this season. They went all-in, acquiring Aaron Rodgers to upgrade their quarterback position after the offense fell flat on its face near the end of the 2022 campaign.

The Jets didn’t score a single touchdown in the final three games of the season, derailing what was a very promising start. After coming out the gate 6-3, New York lost seven out of their last eight games, including six in a row to finish.

Those kinds of struggles should not occur with Rodgers running the offense. He is a huge upgrade over Zach Wilson, Mike White and Joe Flacco and should keep this unit moving smoothly. If not, at least the Jets can rely on what looks to be a dominant defense.

The Jets had the No. 4 ranked defense in points allowed and yardage surrendered in 2022. They should be excellent once again this season, helping take pressure off of the offense as they get used to having Rodgers in the fold.

With the regular season right around the corner, some moves are going to have to be made with the roster to pare it down. The Jets have to get down to 53 for the regular season, which could lead to some solid players being released or traded.

One player that New York should have on the trade block, in the opinion of Matt Holder from Bleacher Report, is veteran pass rusher Carl Lawson. The Jets have used a first-round pick in two straight years on a pass rusher, selecting Jermaine Johnson II and Will McDonald IV in consecutive years. The depth compiled is a big reason Holder believes Lawson should be on the block.

“Between Carl Lawson, John Franklin-Myers, Michael Clemons, Jermaine Johnson and Will McDonald IV, the New York Jets have plenty of talent at defensive end. Even Bryce Huff played well in a limited role last season, and Solomon Thomas can take some reps on the edge if needed.

So, the Jets could trade Lawson, and their defense probably wouldn’t notice his absence.”

If the Jets need to keep a player on the roster at another position, the defensive end could be where they look to make a move. Retaining six players at the position is the most that the team would keep.

Pass rushers are worth a lot around the league, so it wouldn’t hurt New York to shop Lawson and see what kind of value he has. He looks recovered from his Achilles rupture after a 7.0-sack season in 2022 and could fetch the Jets an early Day 3 pick in a trade.
