The Chicago Bears finished their 19-13 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday without quarterback Justin Fields available to play. He sustained a right-hand injury that ended his performance in the third quarter. He threw for 58 yards with one interception and no touchdowns on 10 attempts.
Chicago’s first drive of the third quarter ended with Fields being sacked by Vikings edge rusher Danielle Hunter. On 3rd & 7, Fields dropped back to pass and ran toward the visitors’ sideline to evade the pass rush. As Fields fell to the ground from a sack from behind by Hunter, he attempted to flip the ball to Darrynton Evans, resulting in an awkward landing on his right hand.
“His demeanor is great,” Bears coach Matt Eberflus said. “He goes, ‘Coach, we’ll see where it is tomorrow.’ He was positive, and he was upbeat.”
Field underwent X-rays on his hand, and the results were negative, per ESPN Staff Writer Courtney Cronin. The Bears will have Fields undergo an MRI on Monday, which should clarify how long he’ll be sidelined. The quarterback dislocated his thumb and had to pop it back in place to attempt to finish the game, but he couldn’t grip the football.

The Bears finished the game with rookie quarterback Tyson Bagent under center, marking his NFL regular season debut. He completed 10 of 14 pass attempts for 84 yards and one interception. Fields could not even grip the football, requiring him to remain out.
Regardless of Fields’ status for the Bears’ injury status for the team’s matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders on Oct. 22, Chicago must produce more offense points.
“We’ll see where Justin is,” Eberflus said. “In terms of the identity of it, we’re going to have to look hard and see how we can get the ball down the field and score points. That’s the No. 1 thing we have to do.”

The losses have quickly stacked up for the Bears early in the season as the team fell to 1-5 through the initial six games of their campaign. While Aaron Rodgers is longer in the division, Chicago still has failed to find its footing to return to being a contender.
