During a recent interview with TIME, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was asked about his political stance heading into the 2024 presidential election.
Mahomes wisely deflected, refusing to publicly endorse either Joe Biden or Donald Trump.
“I don’t want to pressure anyone to vote for a certain president,” Mahomes said. “I want people to use their voice, whoever they believe in. I want them to do the research.”
It’s certainly a smart move for Mahomes from a business perspective and also refreshing to see a celebrity encouraging people to make their own decisions.
Mahomes seems more focused on playing football and going for a three-peat.
The 28-year-old is coming off of back-to-back Super Bowl championships, most recently throwing for 4,183 yards, 27 touchdowns and 14 interceptions while completing 67.2 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 92.6 in what was actually a down year for Mahomes in 2023.
That didn’t stop Mahomes from making his sixth straight trip to the Pro Bowl, and most importantly, he totaled six touchdowns and just one pick in the Chiefs’ playoff run that led to his second straight title and third overall.
No NFL team has ever three-peated in the Super Bowl era, and Mahomes and the Chiefs seem to have a great chance of becoming the first next season.
Mahomes, who played his collegiate football at Texas Tech, was selected by Kansas City with the 10th overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft..
He spent his rookie campaign behind Alex Smith and became the full-time starter in 2018. He immediately stamped his name among the best players in football, throwing for 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns that year. One season later, Mahomes was a Super Bowl champion.
Patrick Mahomes is well on his way to becoming one of the best players to ever play the game, if he isn’t on that list already.
