The last few days have been a whirlwind for free agent running back Kareem Hunt. With training camp underway, a few spots have opened up around the league in the team’s backfields. After not receiving much interest thus far this offseason, Kareem Hunt has become a sought-after player.

Last week, the New Orleans Saints learned that running back Alvin Kamara would be suspended for the first three games of the season stemming from an incident he was involved in during Pro Bowl weekend in 2022. Without their starter, the Saints set up a meeting with Kareem Hunt.

He was set to have his visit with the team on Tuesday and things reportedly went great at the visit. However, an interesting twist arose. The visit was cut short because Kareem Hunt had been alerted that another team was willing to offer more money.

That team was the Indianapolis Colts, who Kareem Hunt went to visit after leaving the Saints. There was mutual interest between Indianapolis and Kareem Hunt, as the team’s depth at running back has taken a hit this offseason.

Jonathan Taylor left the team recently to rehab his ankle off-site. The standoff about his contract also leads to some mystery about his status with the Colts. His backup, Zack Moss, broke his arm at practice, leaving Indianapolis shorthanded in the backfield.

Alas, no deal was able to be struck between the two sides. Kareem Hunt is going to continue fielding offers from other teams around the league, waiting for an opportunity that he feels suits him best.

Where that opportunity could come from is anyone’s guess. Kareem Hunt is coming off the least productive season of his career in 2022 with the Cleveland Browns. In the first three seasons in Cleveland, he had been a successful complementary player to Nick Chubb as the main passing-down running back.

Prior to joining the Browns, Kareem Hunt showed that he had the talent to carry a backfield as the lead back. He was excellent as a rookie with the Kansas City Chiefs and was having another strong sophomore season before an off-the-field incident from earlier in the year when he struck a woman, went viral, leading to his release.
