Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams will face his old teammates on Monday night when his club hosts the Green Bay Packers in their Week 5 matchup. But there is one old friend he is not looking forward to seeing: cornerback Jaire Alexander.
Alexander has developed into one of the better corners in football, and much of that credit probably goes to Adams for lining up opposite of him in practice for the first four years of Alexander’s career.
“I didn’t create that monster but he definitely turned into one,” Adams said, according to Packers senior writer Wes Hodkiewicz.
Alexander has actually missed the last couple of games due to a back injury, but he was a limited participant in practice on Thursday. There is real optimism that he could make his return against Adams and the Raiders on Monday.
In two games this season, Alexander has logged eight tackles and a couple of passes defended.
Alexander, who played his collegiate football at the University of Louisville, was selected by Green Bay with the 18th overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft.
He enjoyed an impressive rookie campaign, playing in 13 games and registering 66 tackles, a half of a sack, an interception, a pair of fumble recoveries and 11 passes defended.
By his third season, Jaire Alexander was a Pro Bowler after finishing with 51 tackles, a sack, a pick, a forced fumble and 14 passes defended. Injuries limited the 26-year-old to just four games in 2021, but last season, he returned and made another trip to the Pro Bowl courtesy of recording 56 tackles, five interceptions and 14 passes defended.
Davante Adams spent the first eight years of his career with the Packers but was traded to the Raiders in March 2022.
Las Vegas is 1-3 on the season thus far. Meanwhile, Green Bay is 2-2.
