Josh Jacobs and the Las Vegas Raiders have won two games in a row, but it has been more as a result of their suddenly stifling defense then their offense.
The Raiders have allowed just 30 points over the last 10 quarters and most recently defeated the New England Patriots by a score of 21-17 this past Sunday.
While the fans may be happy with their team’s defensive effort, they aren’t too happy with the quarterback situation.
After Jimmy Garoppolo went down with a back injury against the Patriots, veteran backup Brian Hoyer stepped into replace him. This irked the Raiders faithful, who wanted to see rookie quarterback Aidan O’Connell take the field.
As a result, the Las Vegas crowd booed Hoyer, which left running back Josh Jacob understandably bothered.
“To hear the fans boo him and (expletive) was kind of crazy,” Jacobs told reporters, via the Raiders’ official YouTube account. “But he came out there and bombed ’em and shut them up. … I think he played good, man.”
Hoyer went 6-for-10 with 102 yards in relief of Garoppolo, who had gone 14-for-22 with 162 yards, a touchdown and an interception before exiting.
Raiders fans may have to get used to Hoyer, because if Garoppolo is unable to play during Las Vegas’ Week 7 matchup with the Chicago Bears, it seems to be rather certain that Hoyer will get the start.
Hoyer in his first season with the Raiders. The 38-year-old has been well-traveled throughout his 15-year NFL career, also pending time with the Patriots Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, Chicago Bears, San Francisco 49ers and Indianapolis Colts.
In 53 career appearances and 35 starts, Hoyer has thrown 53 touchdowns and 35 interceptions while completing 59.4 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 83.
The Raiders improved to 3-3 with their win over New England.
