The Kansas City Chiefs have won back-to-back Super Bowl championships and have collected three Vince Lombardi trophies over the last five years, so they are in a class of their own in the NFL.
However, they are not invincible, and Fox Sports analyst Chris Broussard sees a major threat brewing for the Chiefs in the AFC.
The Houston Texans.
The Texans have been very busy this offseason, signing top edge rusher Danielle Hunter, 1000-yard running back Joe Mixon and swinging a blockbuster trade for star wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
With the addition of Diggs, Houston now features one of the best receiving corps in football, as the group also includes Nico Collins and Tank Dell. Plus, the Texans have tight end Dalton Schultz.
On top of that, C.J. Stroud—who just enjoyed one of the best rookie seasons in NFL history—will be throwing them the football.
Defensively, Hunter should form a lethal pass-rushing duo with Will Anderson Jr., and the Texans should be better than the slightly above average defense they were in 2023.
Of course, the game isn’t played on paper.
It remains to be seen if Diggs will mesh in Houston’s offense, as he certainly won’t be getting the amount of touches he received with the Buffalo Bills.
Also, we’ll see if Stroud can avoid the sophomore slump, and given Diggs’ questionable history in getting along with quarterbacks, the Texans need to hope the chemistry between Stroud and Diggs is top notch.
And let’s face it: the Chiefs have been running the conference for the last half-decade, as they have played in four Super Bowls in the last five seasons. With Patrick Mahomes under center, Kansas City is the odds-on favorite to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl yet again next season.
The Texans also have to worry about teams like the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals.
Houston definitely looks good, but we have to see if it translates into on-field success.
