Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has been suspended two games for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drugs policy, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Schefter notes that the suspension is a result of Garoppolo using a prescribed medication without having a therapeutic use exemption from the league.

Garoppolo will not appeal the ban.

The Raiders are widely expected to release Garoppolo anyway, and Schefter says that it will probably occur before the fifth day of the new league year next month before his $11.25 million roster bonus kicks in.

Las Vegas signed Garoppolo to a three-year, $72.5 million contract last offseason. However, things did not exactly go according to plan.

The 32-year-old made just six starts in 2023 before being benched. During his time on the field, he threw for 1,205 yards, seven touchdowns and nine interceptions while completing 65.1 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 77.7.

Garoppolo, who played his collegiate football at Eastern Illinois, was originally selected by the New England Patriots in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

He spent the first three years of his career as Tom Brady’s backup, but was eventually traded to the San Francisco 49ers in 2017.

Garoppolo would reside the 49ers from 2017 through 2022, leading the 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance during the 2019-20 campaign.

Still, Garoppolo was never shake the notion that he was a product of Kyle Shanahan’s system in San Francisco, and at this point, it’s hard to argue otherwise.

Jimmy Garoppolo would surely land somewhere this offseason, but it’s hard to imagine he will find a starting job at this juncture.
