Chargers Predicted To Sign Intriguing Big-Play WR In Free Agency

The Los Angeles Chargers could certainly use some more weapons in support of Justin Herbert, and Dallas Robinson of Pro Football Network sees a potentially interesting target for them in free agency.

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Gabe Davis.

Is wide out an incredibly pressing need for the Chargers? Well, it depends on how much faith they have in Quentin Johnson, their 2023 first-round pick who is entering his second season.

We already know Los Angeles has Keenan Allen, who has been a mainstay in the club’s receiving corps for years. But Mike Williams may be a cut candidate, possibly leaving Johnson—who totaled just 431 yards during his rookie campaign—as LA’s No. 2 receiver.

If that ends up being the case, then yes; the Chargers could use some insurance at the position, and Davis could certainly fit the bill.

Davis is coming off of a solid 2023 campaign in which he caught 45 passes for 746 yards and seven touchdowns. He isn’t exactly consistent, but he has significant big-play ability, something Herbert could absolutely use at his disposal.

The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Central Florida, was selected by the Bills in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

He registered 35 catches for 599 yards and seven scores during his rookie year, and in his sophomore season, he posted nearly identical numbers, snaring 35 balls for 549 yards while reaching the end zone six times.

Then, in 2022, Davis enjoyed a breakout campaign of sorts, hauling in 48 receptions for 836 yards and seven touchdowns. Most impressive was the fact that he averaged a robust 17.4 yards per catch.

Davis would be a welcome addition to the Bolts, but the question is whether or not the team will be able to afford him.

The Chargers are mired in a miserable salary cap situation heading into the offseason and may have to get creative to make any significant moves.

Los Angeles went just 5-12 this past season.
